Headway, the brain injury association,
is a national organisation with branches throughout the UK. (National Headway website)
Leicestershire Leicester and Rutland Headway is an independently registered
charity, affiliated to the national organisation. We have a Board
of Trustees who set our strategy and oversee the running of the charity.
The executive control is in the hands of our Services Director, supported
by a part-time team of specialist managers, carers and volunteers.
See our page on Headway People.
Our purpose is to help people in their recovery from head injuries or
brain diseases like tumours or meningitis (See our page About
Brain Injury) We aim at a return to as normal a life as possible
within the community, including a return to work where possible. Generally
our members are within the age range 18-65.
This help extends also to the friends and families
who care for our members, from the first period of shock through the
whole recovery process.
You can find out how we do this in our page on Headway
Services
We are funded by the Local Health Authority, and the Social Services
Departments of Leicester City, Leicestershire and Rutland. Together
these cover some 59% of our costs. We have to find the rest from fundraising
events and voluntary donations. You can find more about this in our
page on Finances and Funding
