| Summer
Workshops at the City Gallery (Granby Street) As
part of the City Gallerys summer exhibition on the theme of Shoes,
Headway was invited to take along a group of up to 6 people to three workshops.
The first two were using a sand casting technique. Headway members
used wet sand to create a mould of their feet. Then their footprint was
filled in with coloured Plaster of Paris and then, when this was set, the
foot was decorated. Yvette made her foot into a face with green (toenail)
hair! The other workshop involved using the soles of shoes to print onto fabric, creating a decorative wall hanging. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed taking part in these workshops and working in such a lovely environment with excellent staff. Liquid
Light Project!Headway was also invited to take a group along to a project at the Picture House- a photography centre where Headway has been many times for photography courses. This time it was for a project known as Liquid Light. Two Jamaican artists, Arlene Brown and Andrew Smith came over to England as part of the Spirit of Friendship festival and delivered art workshops at the Picture House. The brief was to pose for and take pictures of images that illustrate friendship. Some of these images were then used to create badges, fridge magnets and mugs. As always, the group was made to feel at ease in this friendly learning environment, where fun was had by all who attended. |
