SPOTLIGHT
ON Chris Batchelor |
In
1996 my whole life was changed by a brain haemorrhage at the young age
of 34. I had always been an active person and enjoyed the adventures offered
through my job as a technician in the RAF for 12 years. Whilst with the
RAF I learnt how to fly gliders and helped renovate World War I and II
aircraft for the historic aircraft collection at St Athan in South Wales.
I then went on to work for British Airways in Cardiff. One of my main hobbies has always been painting with Watercolours and you can imagine how devastating it was to find that I had lost the use of my right amatory brain injury. But luckily I’m a determined and strong person and taught myself to use my left hand and can now paint just as well as before. I paint from photographs or pictures in magazines and usually paint birds, animals or sailing boats. I start by sketching the outline in pencil before the really fine art work begins. I’m really proud of my paintings, as many of you are probably aware, and will take every opportunity to show you my work or sell you a picture. I’m an excellent sales person as well and have sold pictures to friends, Headway staff and even taxi drivers, donating the money to Headway! I am hoping to exhibit some of my work at the St James The Greater Church art exhibition in September and hopefully I will be able to sell some more pictures there! Chris Batchelor Headway to Benefit from Art Exhibition The Charity Committee at St James the Greater Church on London Road have very kindly agreed to support Headway at their annual art exhibition . Local artists are invited by the church to exhibit and sell their work to the public and as the nominated charity to benefit from this event, Headway members have also been invited to exhibit their own work, a fantastic opportunity to highlight the achievements of our members. The Exhibition takes place on Saturday 18th September, 10am to 5 pm, and on Sunday 19th September, 2 pm to 4.30 pm |
