Pottery Successes |
Within
a care environment you always come across exceptional people, who give
their time to pass on their talents and knowledge to our members, to encourage
participation in new activities or to learn a new skill. Gill Pemberton
is no exception to this rule. Gill works at Headway House one morning
each week, running pottery activities for our members. The therapeutic
and physical benefits or working with such a medium has proved highly
successful with our members and the work being produced is fantastic,
from pots to fish and from vases to full size ceramics - the members are
given every encouragement to design their own pieces, to help develop
their skills. You always know when Gill is at Headway House, there is
always lots of laughter from her work area and an amazing creative buzz
from all the members!Gill has been working at Headway for four years and became involved through her job, at that time, as a pottery teacher at Leicester Adult Education College. After leaving the college she has continued her work with Headway members as
a sessional tutor and also runs a pottery evening course at Beauchamp
College in Oadby, attended by some Headway members. Before becoming a
teacher, Gill had a demanding and successful career as Director of Design
for Denby Pottery, but as the company grew larger and larger over the
years she took the decision to change the direction of her career and
attended Nottingham University to gainteaching qualifications. Even though officially Gill only works one morning each week, she also spends time transporting the pottery between Headway House and Leicester Adult Education College to use their kilns, is a ready volunteer at our sponsored swim events and also supports many other activities held by Headway. Thank goodness she decided to change her career and become a teacher! Pictured: right Gill Pemberton, Pottery tutor extraordinaire, above Gill working with Kay and Bob |
