On Tuesday 12th April, Mary, Paul and I went to the Leicester General
Hospital Brain Injury Unit for the grand opening ceremony of the Brain
Injury Unit. The Unit has 6 beds and offers centralised services for treatment
and rehabilitation of patients in the early stages of recovery after a
brain injury.The Unit itself was opened by Martin Corry, England Rugby Captain and Leicester Tigers player, who made a short speech and unveiled a plaque dedicated to the Unit.
We then moved to the Neurological Out-Patients department, where there was a further speech given by a very experienced Neurological Consultant, who spoke very humorously of the ‘old days’ and made us realise how far the neurological services have progressed. A delicious finger buffet was provided, and it was good to mark this important development that will benefit many people.

Injury Awareness Week Events 14-20 March 2005
Sponsored Swim 15 March 2005
This year eight swimmers took part in our annual sponsored swim which was held at Cannons Health Club. Staff, volunteers and members, James Greenberry, Chris Batchelor and Kevin Williams joined the swim to raise over £1,000. As usual the swim ended with a relaxing dip in the Jacuzzi!
Thank you to everyone who took part, the sponsors who supported this event and to Cannons Health Club for providing the venue and use of facilities.

Coffee Mornings
During Brain Injury Awareness week several coffee mornings were held across the city to help raise awareness and money for Headway. Headway held their own coffee morning at the Mayflower Church Hall raising £120 and money is still coming in from other groups who held events or coffee mornings in support of Brain Injury Awareness Week. Thank you to everyone who gave their time to support Headway during this week and to groups who didn't have time to organise an event but sent a donation.
