| A
new adornment to Leicester’s Headway House was unveiled
at the charity’s summer barbecue. "The Old Dragon"
is the work of members at the Tuesday Headway group.
The group were inspired to do the dragon when volunteer Helen
Disley (a skilled mosaicist) came in and said she had seen a nice
looking dragon on a local Chinese Takeaway sign! She sketched
it out and the design was transferred on to exterior grade plywood.
Old tiles, broken beads and glass mosaic tiles were stuck to the
board, grouted and sealed over a period of 6 - 7 Tuesday afternoons.
Members and volunteers were involved, staff providing some positive
encouragement in the background! The cost was small but the artistic
result, being in a good position outside the sliding patio doors
at Headway will provide an interesting and bright visual relief
to the grey winter days!
"It was a lot of hard work but its great to see it now its
finished" says Panisha.
"We’ve made our mark and it will be here for years
to come" Catherine, a volunteer said. John, another volunteer
says "It was great creative teamwork" and he added "it
just shows what you can achieve when you get a few minds working
together". Jacqui said " Never have broken tiles looked
so good!"
The last word goes to Chris "brilliant".
More examples of the artistic talents of Headway members will
be on view as part of an Art Exhibition at the Church of St James
the Greater on 18 and 19 September.
