Head Injuries need not limit creativity. At Leicestershire Leicester
and Rutland Headway members are encouraged to develop their creative
skills in many ways which surprise everyone, even themselves,
and encourage them to try more and more projects. Over the past
few months pottery, fabric craft, woodwork, digital photography
and video, mosaics and the creation of greetings cards are some
of the project areas covered at their day centre in Leicester.
Headway
and the Leicester City Gallery are getting together to put on
an exhibition of members’ work. This is just one way of
marking 2003: The European Year of People with Disabilities. The
exhibition will show examples of work produced in groups, guided
by tutors and the patient support of volunteers.
Marietta Sharp, House Manager at Headway, says: “Individuals
work at their own pace and finish any piece of work which has
been started, as huge encouragement and a great sense of achievement
is gained by a complete piece of work.”
The exhibition, called “Headway Works”, will be at
the City Gallery from August 19th to 30th.
