More than £5,000 has been presented to Headway, the charity
that helps people with brain injuries, by the organisers of
the Great Kibworth Run.
Headway was one of two main charities to benefit
from the efforts of more than 700 participants in the biannual
run last September when more than £15,000 was raised.
The Hope Foundation was the other principal beneficiary.
Organiser David Adams said: “Headway provides
such an excellent facility throughout the county and is a terrific
cause.”
And Headway fundraiser Kathy Yallop added: “We
are delighted to receive such a large sum and our thanks go
to all the runners who took part. Some of our members and families
acted as marshals and enjoyed a great spectacle.
“The money will be used to help buy equipment for our
newly extended activity day centre at Hospital Close in Leicester
and will enable our members to participate in a wider range
of therapeutic activities including pottery, woodwork and computer
skills. This donation will make a tremendous difference to all
those people who benefit from Headway's support and activities.”

NB: Leicestershire Leicester and Rutland Headway currently helps
140 adults who have sustained traumatic brain damage due to
injury or illness and who live in the city and the two counties.
At its day centre near the Leicester General Hospital, and through
work around the area, it offers rehabilitation, help and advice
to enable its members to return to as full a life as possible
within the community. It also helps their families to understand
and come to terms with the after effects of brain damage, one
of the least visible of disabilities.
