Two members of Headway, the charity that helps people with
brain injuries, are serving up a treat for parishioners at a
Leicester church.
Pete ‘n Lee’s luncheon club is a
weekly highlight St Alban’s community centre, Weymouth
Street, where meals are on the table every Monday for more than
30 diners.
Peter Bust (35) and Lee Chadd (40) volunteered
help run the lunch club as part of their continuing studies
programme at Leicester College towards a catering qualification.
Supervised by their tutor Sharon Grech they
help cook and serve a tasty meal - and then wash up. And on
December 19 they will be cooking a special Christmas party treat.
“They didn’t need any persuasion
to take over the running of the lunch club which was desperate
for help,” said Headway education team leader Sue Hannam.
“They get on really well with all the parishioners. “
It has worked well for everyone – Pete and Lee, St Albans
and Leicester College”

NB: Leicestershire Leicester and Rutland Headway
currently helps 140 adults who have sustained traumatic brain
damage due to injury or illness and who live in the city and
the two counties. At its day centre near the Leicester General
Hospital, and through work around the area, it offers rehabilitation,
help and advice to enable its members to return to as full a
life as possible within the community. It also helps their families
to understand and come to terms with the after effects of brain
damage, one of the least visible of disabilities. Headway is
a registered charity and receives public funding from the Departments
of Social Services and Health, but relies on voluntary contributions
to provide as full a range of services as it can.
