Farewell to a "remarkable lady"
Charity chief Sylvia Davis has retired after 15 years as the driving force behind Headway Leicester, which helps people with brain injuries.

At her farewell party Headway president Dr Lawrence Howard, JP, Lord Lieutenant of Rutland, described her as “a very remarkable lady” and said Headway’s success story was due to her “commitment, inspiration and leadership”.

Mrs Davis started working as a part-time co-ordinator with what was then a small support group. Today Leicester Headway has a staff of 18 experts in different aspects of rehabilitation, with centres around Leicestershire and Rutland, a budget of around £¼ million and 132 users of the service.

Its premises next to Leicester General Hospital, which have art and craft facilities, computers and a fully fitted woodwork area, are being further extended with one of the rooms being named in her honour. Diet and fitness guru Rosemary Conley will officially open the new facilities in September.

Former Leicester City Council service development co-ordinator Mary Goulty has joined Headway in the new post of Services Director.
